Several databases allow one to search for lower cost hotels located close to
conference hotels. Each will list the distance from each neighboring hotel
to the comparison hotel.
Expedia.com
- Go to http://www.expedia.com (a
travel site owned by Microsoft)
- Click on "hotels"
- Click on "search near a U.S. address"
- Enter the street address of the convention hotel
- Select any preferences
- Click on "Find all hotels"
- Reservations can be made online for some hotels.
Travelocity.com --click on "hotels" and follow a similar procedure.
To find potentially even lower priced hotels, but with without price
information available online: Infospace.com
- Go to http://www.infospace.com/ .
- Click on "Yellow pages."
- Enter the name of the hotel into the "Business Name" blank and
enter the city and state.
- Click on "Find."
- If given a choice between different firm categories, choose, "Hotels
and motels."
- Click on the "About" icon by the listing of the headquarters
hotel.
- Click on "Businesses nearby."
- Enter "Hotels & motels" as the category.
- Hotels will now be listed in order of geographical proximity (there may be
a preliminary list of "Preferred listings," which will usually be
more expensive).
